Igor Stravinsky, Composer
Maki Namekawa, Piano
Dennis Russell Davies, Conductor, Piano
Pianoversion arranged by Dennis Russell Davies.
The Basel Symphony Orchestra’s new double CD continues the recording of Igor Stravinsky’s great ballets. After Le Sacre du printemps, L’Oiseau de feu was included in the second of a total of three editions.
The 2-CD set of Stravinsky’s ballets contains “L’Oiseau de feu”, played by the Basel Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Dennis Russell Davies, in addition to the piano version for four hands played by Maki Namekawa and Dennis Russell Davies. The conductor and pianist Dennis Russell Davies arranged L’Oiseau de feu, which Stravinsky only transcribed for two hands, especially for this recording for four hands. The basis for this arrangement by Davies is the original version by Stravinsky and throws new light on the orchestral version and the compositional aspect of the works.
